Lot 404: A Collection of Assorted Curios and Collectibles Including an Etched Commemorative Cowrie Shell and Miniature Lustre Tea Set
An assortment of curios and decorative items. The collection features a group of natural seashells, including a large cowrie shell with a detailed etched inscription reading: Robert Oscar Cowling Born March 11th 1869 in the Old Barn Road Liskeard From his Uncle and Aunt Charles and Emily White, as well as a large conch and other specimens. Included is a miniature ceramic tea set with a pink lustre finish, comprising cups, saucers, and a cream jug. The base of one piece bears a circular backstamp featuring a crown and the text MADE IN ENGLAND and BUTTERFLIES. Loose items include a silver-toned pocket watch housed in a brown presentation box, a commemorative coin in a plastic case with purple lining, two coins or tokens attached with twine, a white ceramic thimble decorated with a floral motif, and a brass-toned letter opener featuring a decorative handle.
