Lot 448: A Collection of Poole Pottery Compact Range Tableware in Chestnut and Oatmeal Glazes
A collection of mid-century Poole Pottery tableware from the Compact range, designed by Robert Jefferson in the 1960s. This group features pieces in two distinct colourways: the Chestnut pattern, characterised by rich brown glazed exteriors and white interiors, and a speckled Oatmeal or cream-coloured glaze. The items exhibit the signature vertical ribbed texture to the lower bodies and rims typical of this range. Included in the lot are multiple gravy boats, a lidded sugar jar with a notch for a spoon, and an assortment of mugs, cups, plates, and saucers. The pieces are constructed from high-fired earthenware/stoneware. Various backstamps are present on the undersides, including the Poole England mark with the stylised dolphin logo and text indicating the items are oven proof and dishwasher safe.
