Lot 541: Two Victorian Sterling Silver Mounted Items: a Fish Knife and a Cut-Glass Jug
A Victorian sterling silver-mounted fish knife and a small silver-mounted clear cut-glass jug. The fish knife features a sterling silver blade and ferrule with a carved bone handle. The blade is decorated with Aesthetic Movement-style engraving depicting a swallow in flight surrounded by scrolling foliage and leaf motifs. The bone handle shows natural grain and pitting. The ferrule is struck with Birmingham hallmarks including the lion passant, anchor, date letter y for 1898, and the maker mark H.W for Henry Williamson Ltd.
The clear glass jug is of tapered form with a cut-glass starburst motif to the base and a simple applied loop handle. The sterling silver mounts include a collar and a hinged lid with a small thumbpiece. The underside of the lid is struck with the lion passant; the maker mark is present but illegible.
