Lot 559: An Assortment of Vintage Ephemera, Philatelic Items, and British Decimal Coinage
This lot comprises a varied collection of mid-20th-century paper and metal collectibles. Included is an official Royal Mint presentation folder titled Britains First Decimal Coins containing five circulated-quality coins representing the initial decimal transition: 1/2p, 1p, 2p, 5p, and 10p. The interior includes descriptive text regarding the move from the pre-decimal system. The ephemera section features a partial set of monochrome trade cards from the Ty-phoo Tea Series of 20, featuring maritime and naval vessels such as HMS Eagle, HMS Vanguard, and the cable ship The Recorder. Also present is a stack of monochrome photographic glamour cards featuring female subjects in poses typical of the 1930s-1950s, with visible names including Constance Jordan and Franceska Brueckle. A selection of colour trade cards is included, covering themes such as space exploration, astronomy, and natural history. The philatelic component consists of a quantity of loose and clipped postage stamps, primarily from the United Kingdom (including Queen Elizabeth II Machin definitives and 1977 Silver Jubilee issues) and international examples from regions such as the Republic of Honduras. Postal history is represented by envelopes addressed to Mr and Mrs Bert Gliddon in Cornwall, with one postmark dated May 1982. A vintage rectangular metal tin is included for storage.
