Lot 848: A Victorian Stained Pine Blanket Chest
A 19th-century Victorian country-style storage or blanket chest. The piece is constructed from pine throughout, with the exterior finished in a dark reddish-brown stain and the interior displaying the natural light wood grain. The chest is of rectangular form with a hinged overhanging lid. The interior is fitted with a traditional lidded candle box, or till, positioned to the left-hand side. It sits upon a simple plinth base with shaped bracket-style feet. Hardware includes two internal iron strap hinges and a central keyhole to the front face, which is currently lacking an escutcheon. No maker marks are present.
