Lot 874: Late Victorian Mahogany-stained Hardwood Washstand Splashback with Marble Panel
A late Victorian mahogany-stained hardwood washstand splashback or mirror-back. The upper section features a decorative pierced and scrolling pediment above an arched mirror plate. The mirror is set within a frame with carved foliate spandrels and supported by scrolled side brackets. Below the mirror is a single shaped shelf. The lower section contains a rectangular inset panel of variegated reddish-brown and grey marble. The piece is constructed for attachment to a washstand base or for wall mounting. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible. Two small white auction labels are present on the front surface, one bearing the number 874.
