Lot 374: A Persian Style Rug with All-Over Boteh Pattern on a Navy Blue Ground
This Persian style rug features a formal all-over repeating design of stylized foliate and floral motifs, including prominent boteh patterns in cream and light tan, set against a deep navy blue central field. The main field is enclosed by a wide, multi-banded border with a cream ground, decorated with a continuous scrolling vine and flowerhead pattern in a palette of sage green, muted rose, and tan. The construction consists of a dense, low pile, likely composed of wool, with finished edges. The design exhibits a high degree of symmetry and precision. A small white rectangular auction house lot tag numbered 374 is attached to the lower-left edge. No maker’s marks, signatures, or weaver’s marks are visible on the surface.
Condition report:
The rug shows general signs of wear consistent with age and domestic use. There is some slight colour variation and surface wear across the pile, though the pattern remains clear and the overall structure appears sound. The edges appear intact.
