Lot 440: Two Staffordshire Ironstone Plates including Myott Fine Ironstone
A group of two English ironstone ceramic plates of differing designs. The first plate is manufactured by Myott, Son & Co. Ltd. and features a scalloped rim with a multi-coloured floral transfer-ware decoration. The reverse bears a printed backstamp in black ink consisting of a crown symbol above the word MYOTT, with FINE IRONSTONE, STAFFORDSHIRE, and ENGLAND below. Two hand-painted vertical lines in a brownish pigment are visible adjacent to the mark. The second plate is decorated with a wide burgundy-red border, accented by a gilt-toned filigree scrollwork pattern on the inner edge of the rim. No maker’s mark is visible on the second plate.
Condition report:
Both items show signs of use and wear consistent with age. The Myott plate shows some localised brownish staining and minor surface wear on the reverse. No major cracks or structural repairs are visible; however, due to the image quality, a definitive assessment for fine crazing or small rim chips is not possible.
