Lot 506: Two Items of Vintage Jewellery comprising a Japanese Satsuma Style Brooch and a Pair of Modernist Abalone Shell Earrings
A collection of two pieces of vintage jewellery. The first item is a Japanese Satsuma style ceramic brooch of quatrefoil shape, featuring polychrome enamel and gilt decoration depicting a bird amongst flowering foliage. The design is enclosed by a dark-toned border with gilt-dot accents. The second item is a pair of modernist clip-on earrings, each featuring a circular abalone shell disc with an iridescent surface of blue, green, and brown tones. Each disc is overlaid with a tapering triangular motif in silver-toned metal. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are visible on either piece. Both items are presented in blue velvet-lined boxes.
Condition report:
The brooch appears to be in good condition with no visible chips or significant loss to the enamel or gilt decoration. The earrings show signs of surface wear and tarnish to the metal components, and one metal overlay is slightly misaligned from its central position. The clip mechanisms have not been tested for tension.
