Lot 561: A Collection of Wood and Meerschaum-style Smoking Pipes, Including a Turkish Zeybek Example
A collection of smoking pipes of various styles and materials. The group includes several pipes with dark-stained wooden bowls, likely briar, in both bent and straight configurations. Two examples are fitted with silver-tone metal bands at the shank. One pipe features a white-coloured bowl, likely meerschaum, paired with a long, translucent amber-coloured stem. This stem bears the vertical inscription MADE IN TURKEY above the brand name Zeybek. Stems are constructed from black vulcanite or synthetic material and translucent acrylic. While markings are present on the shanks of the wooden pipes, they are not clearly legible.
Condition report:
The collection is in used estate condition throughout. All bowls show visible carbon buildup and charring from use. Stems exhibit surface oxidation, general wear, and notable tooth chatter or bite marks near the mouthpieces. The wooden bowls show surface scuffing and finish wear consistent with age and use. Metal bands show light tarnishing.
