Lot 610: A Ceramic Shire Horse and Wooden Reading Style Gypsy Caravan Vardo
A decorative scale model set comprising a ceramic Shire horse and a wooden gypsy caravan. The horse is modelled in a high-glaze ceramic with a bay finish, featuring white feathered legs and a white blaze. It is equipped with a detailed traditional harness made from leather-effect material with brass-toned metal studs, buckles, and chains. The caravan is a Reading-style vardo constructed from light-stained wood, decorated with stamped foliate and fleur-de-lis motifs. The roof is trimmed with a golden-yellow fabric fringe and tassels, and the window includes lace-effect curtains. The vardo is mounted on four spoked wheels with metal-effect rims and is joined to the horse by wooden shafts. This set is characteristic of mid-20th-century British decorative collectibles, often featuring ceramic figures from manufacturers such as Melba Ware or Beswick.
