Lot 669: Two Beswick Beatrix Potter Glazed Ceramic Figurines, Appley Dapply and Tom Kitten
A pair of glazed ceramic figurines from the Beatrix Potter series, manufactured by Beswick, England. The collection includes two distinct characters modelled in characteristic poses.
The first figurine depicts Appley Dapply as a brown mouse wearing a white apron decorated with blue polka dots and a blue bow around her neck. She is portrayed carrying a yellow woven basket containing a single green leaf. The base features a brown transfer-printed backstamp reading: BEATRIX POTTER’S, ‘APPLEY DAPPLY’, F. Warne & Co. Ltd., Copyright 1971, BESWICK, ENGLAND. A small circular vent hole is present on the base.
The second figurine depicts Tom Kitten as a tabby kitten wearing a pale blue jacket with yellow button details over white trousers. The character stands upon a circular base with green-tinted shading. The base features a brown transfer-printed backstamp reading: BEATRIX POTTER’S, ‘Tom Kitten’, F. Warne & Co. Ltd., Copyright 1948, BESWICK ENGLAND. A large, irregular production vent hole is located in the centre of the base. Both pieces feature a high-gloss glazed finish.
