Lot 841: British Made Nº 35 Cast Iron Hand-Crank Sewing Machine on Wooden Base
This vintage hand-crank sewing machine features a black-finished cast-iron body secured to a rectangular wooden base. The arm is decorated with gold-toned lettering reading Nº 35, and a recessed oval plate on the base bears the serial number J38239. The casting adjacent to the hand-crank mechanism is embossed with the words BRITISH MADE. A silver-toned metal badge is affixed to the front head, depicting a spread-wing eagle above a banner marked TRADE MARK. The machine is equipped with a spoked hand-wheel and a wooden handle for manual operation. Technical features include a nickel-plated stitch-length regulator plate graduated with numbers 5 1/2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, and 16, dual vertical spool pins, and a vibrating shuttle mechanism accessed via two-part slide plates. The lot includes various labels, such as a lot tag for Liskeard Auction Rooms and a handwritten note indicating the machine is in working order.
