Lot 285: Late Victorian Brass Helmet-Shaped Coal Scuttle
A late Victorian or Edwardian period brass coal scuttle of traditional helmet-shaped form. The piece is constructed from sheet brass with a visible vertical seam and is mounted on a flared, circular pedestal base. It features a tubular brass swing handle attached to the body via riveted brackets. The interior of the vessel shows heavy oxidation and darkening from historical domestic use.
Condition report:
Fair condition. There are prominent historic repairs with visible lead-coloured solder at the junction of the body and the pedestal base, as well as along the lower vertical seam. The brass exterior exhibits a moderate patina with areas of tarnishing, surface scratches, and minor indentations.
