Lot 541: A Collection of Antique Domestic Metalware, including Brass Candlesticks, a Mortar and Pestle, and a Box Iron
An assortment of four domestic metalware objects of varying periods and materials. The collection includes a heavy cast brass mortar of flared cylindrical form with a stepped base, accompanied by a coordinating brass pestle. Also present are two mismatched cast brass candlesticks; the first features a multi-knopped baluster stem on a stepped square base with notched corners in the George II style, while the second has a baluster stem supported by a lobed circular base. Completing the lot is a Victorian-period cast iron box iron, featuring a hollow body designed to receive a heated metal slug and fitted with a turned wooden handle. An embossed mark is visible within a raised oval shield on the top of the iron, though the characters are not clearly legible due to surface condition.
