Lot 562: Chinese Lidded Wooden Rice Pot with Arched Swing Handle
A Chinese wooden lidded rice pot or bucket of circular, slightly tapering form. The body is constructed with vertical wooden staves secured by two dark metal bands. It features a tall, arched wooden swing handle and a matching wooden lid. The wood has a polished finish in a warm brown tone. The lid bears two modern paper labels: a printed auction sticker for HCP Auctions South West, Lot 562, and a larger handwritten label identifying the piece as a Chinese wooden rice pot and noting decoration to the underside. Items of this form are also frequently identified as wedding baskets in antique and decorative contexts.
Condition report:
The item appears to be in good used condition. There is visible surface wear, minor scratches, and some thinning of the finish on the wooden surfaces and metal bands, consistent with age and functional use.
