Lot 572: A mid-century modern ruby and amber sommerso art glass sculptural dish
A mid-century modern art glass sculptural dish or centrepiece, executed in the sommerso technique. The piece features a deep ruby red glass core submerged within a thick, transparent amber-yellow layer. The organic, free-form design is supported by a tripod base consisting of three pulled and tapered feet, with the main body sweeping upwards into a single elongated point. The form displays characteristic mid-century stretched glass manipulation. A rectangular white paper adhesive label is present on the side, bearing the handwritten characters 3 / H / 2. No etched signatures, embossed marks, or original manufacturer foil labels were observed. Similar examples of this specific form and colour combination are frequently associated with the Spanish glass manufacturer Viartec or Italian Murano workshops of the 1950s and 1960s.
