Lot 500: A Trio of Debenham and Freebody Chinoiserie Lounging Garments
A vintage long-sleeved jacket constructed from cotton panels featuring extensive hand-worked embroidery in floral and geometric patterns. The garment is designed in a style associated with the Kutch or Rajasthan regions of India, which gained popularity in the UK during the 1970s and 1980s. The exterior colour palette consists of earthy tones including burnt orange, brick red, and dark chocolate brown. The design incorporates shisha (mirror) work and multiple styles of decorative stitching, including chain and running stitches. The interior is lined with a plain black fabric and features a decorative inner panel or facing made from a burgundy material, heavily embellished with gold-tone metallic thread embroidery and sequins.
