Lot 147: A Pair of Antique Staffordshire Polychrome Ceramic Figural Wall Pockets in the 18th-Century Style
A pair of antique glazed earthenware wall pockets modelled as a gallant and his companion in 18th-century attire. Each figure is depicted in high relief leaning against a classical fluted column which serves as the functional pocket. The male figure is dressed in a green frock coat, yellow waistcoat, and green breeches, while the female figure wears a green bodice and skirt with a yellow shawl. Both figures are shown holding large bouquets or cornucopias of pink and white flowers. The pieces feature hand-painted facial features and decorative gold lustre highlights on a white ground. No maker’s marks, factory stamps, or model numbers are visible on the reverse or the bases of either item.
