Lot 165: Two Edwardian Sterling Silver Items Comprising a Weighted Candlestick and a Nail Buffer
This lot comprises two Edwardian sterling silver items: a small weighted candlestick and a nail buffer.
The small weighted candlestick features a circular loaded base with concentric reeded borders, a short knop stem, and a flared sconce. The base is loaded with a black resin filling to provide stability. The side of the base is stamped with four hallmarks: the maker mark A&JZ in a pinched horizontal cartouche for Arthur and John Zimmerman, the lion passant standard mark, the Chester assay town mark depicting three garbs and a sword, and the serif capital letter K date letter corresponding to 1910.
The nail buffer is of typical boat-shaped form with a raised central grip handle, fitted with a chamois leather buffing pad to the underside. Stamped to the lower side rim of the silver casing are three small hallmarks, including a lion passant standard mark and two heavily rubbed, illegible marks.
