Lot 49: A Pair of Silver Coins comprising an AT Maria Theresa Thaler and a UK Elizabeth I Threepence dated 1572
This lot comprises two silver coins of differing origins and periods. The first is an Austrian Maria Theresa Thaler, a restrike of the 1780 issue. The obverse features a veiled bust of the Empress facing right with the legend M. THERESIA D. G. R. IMP. HU. BO. REG. and the initials S. F. below the truncation. The reverse displays the imperial double-headed eagle with provincial shields and the legend ARCHID. AVST. DUX. BURG. CO. TYR. 1780 X. The second coin is a hammered silver UK Elizabeth I three pence, dated 1572. The obverse shows a crowned bust facing left with a rose behind the head and the legend ELIZABETH D G ANG FR ET HI REGINA. The reverse features a long cross fourchee over a quartered shield of arms with the date 15 72 split by the upper arm of the cross and the legend POSVI DEVM ADIVTOREM MEVM.
