Lot 37: A Cast Brass Peacock Fan Fireplace Screen and a Pair of Neoclassical Style Andirons
This lot comprises a cast brass folding fireplace screen and a pair of associated brass andirons. The fireplace screen, commonly referred to as a peacock or fan screen, consists of nine pierced, openwork panels that fan out from a central decorative base. The base features Neoclassical Revival ornamentation, including a central winged female bust above a scrollwork plinth, and is topped with a ring-form carrying handle. The two accompanying fire dogs are of a similar cast brass construction with splayed legs terminating in paw feet. Each andiron is decorated with foliate roundels and scrollwork. Notably, the two andirons feature different finials, with one topped by a spherical ball and the other by a stylized avian head. No permanent manufacturer marks were found on any of the pieces.
