Lot 551: A late 19th or early 20th century Chinese crackle glazed blue and white teapot with Ge Mingxiang mark
A Chinese ceramic teapot of globular form featuring a short tapered spout and a slightly domed lid with a circular blue glazed knob finial. The vessel is fitted with a fixed overhead brass handle attached to two blue glazed lugs on the shoulder. The exterior is decorated in underglaze blue with a continuous landscape scene depicting figures amidst stylized pine trees and foliage. The entire piece, including the lid, is finished with a heavy deliberate crackle glaze characteristic of Ge type or Shiwan crackleware. The base features a four character mark in blue underglaze for Ge Mingxiang Zhi (葛明祥製), attributing the piece to the workshop of Ge Mingxiang.
