Lot 587: A Collection of Mid-20th Century NBC Equipment Comprising Respirators and Corrugated Metal Canisters
An assortment of mid-20th century NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) equipment, including two rubber respirators and three metal carrying canisters. The respirators are constructed from black moulded rubber with circular glass eyepieces secured by metal rims. Each facepiece is fitted with a front-mounted screw-on filter. The filters feature a black cylindrical body with a prominent red horizontal band and a teal-painted perforated base, resembling the Romanian Md.35 or Polish wz.32 patterns. An embossed circular marking is present on the cheek of the rubber facepieces, though the specific characters are not clearly legible. The equipment is accompanied by tall, cylindrical carrying canisters of corrugated metal construction. These canisters are finished in a matte olive drab paint and feature hinged lids, canvas webbing shoulder straps, and metal attachment hardware. The design of the canisters is characteristic of the German M38 pattern gas mask tin.
