Lot 969: After the Roman Antique, 'Flora'
A large-scale framed print depicting the Roman fresco known as Flora or Primavera, originally found at the Villa Arianna in Stabiae and dating to the 1st century AD. The composition features a female figure in a white diaphanous stola, shown in profile walking towards the right and gathering yellow flowers against a teal-blue ground. The printing technique is designed to replicate the aged and distressed surface of the original archaeological wall painting, incorporating simulated cracking, mineral deposits, and pigment loss. The print is housed under glass with a broad white card mount and set within a wide, bevelled frame with a gilt finish. An adhesive inventory label with the printed numeral 696 is affixed to the lower left of the mount. No artist signature or maker’s marks are visible on the face of the work.
