Lot 859: A Collection of Commemorative and Souvenir Porcelain Thimbles with Four Wooden Display Cases
An extensive collection of over one hundred decorative thimbles, predominantly manufactured from fine bone china and porcelain. The collection encompasses a wide variety of themes including British Royalty commemoratives, notably a portrait thimble featuring the Prince and Princess of Wales, and regional souvenirs from locations such as Ireland, Boscastle, and Osborne House. Other designs include floral motifs and cartoon characters such as Popeye. The lot includes pieces from makers such as Berkshire China and Porcelaines de La Seynie, as indicated by original presentation boxes. Many items are housed in individual clear plastic cases or original carded packaging. Accompanying the thimbles are four wooden shadow-box style wall-hanging display racks of varying sizes, some featuring red felt-lined compartments. Thimble bases bear various marks including Hand Decorated, Fine Bone China, and Made in England, with one base showing a partial TAMS mark.
