Lot 862: A Mid-20th Century Oriental Export Style Carved Hardwood Bureau-on-Stand and Matching Stool
A mid-20th-century Oriental export style bureau-on-stand and matching stool, constructed from a tropical hardwood, likely teak or camphor wood, with a medium-toned finish and visible grain. The bureau features a slant-front writing surface decorated with a relief-carved border of floral and foliate motifs. Below the fall-front are two drawers with recessed finger pulls carved in a shell-like form. Both the desk and the stool sit on elongated cabriole legs. The interior is fitted with seven vertical pigeonholes, two open horizontal compartments, and a central small drawer with two circular wooden pulls. The fall-front is secured by brass-toned butt hinges and supported by two metal folding stays. A metal lock plate is set into the top centre of the fall-front.
