Lot 365: A Collection of Five Novelty and Decorative Lithographed Biscuit and Confectionery Tins
A collection of five novelty lithographed tinplate containers of various forms, including a circular musical biscuit tin produced for Fortnum and Mason. The Fortnum and Mason tin features a turquoise ground decorated with festive carousel and ribbon motifs, with the lid inscribed Happy Birthday and Musical Birthday Biscuits, and bearing the company name and 1707 establishment date. A red double-decker bus tin is decorated as an AEC Routemaster on route 159 to Paddington Basin, featuring destination boards for Oxford Street, Trafalgar Square, Brixton, and Kennington. The collection also includes a cylindrical tin shaped as a nutcracker soldier in a blue and gold military uniform, a conical tin with a teal ground and foliate decoration, and a rectangular tin with rounded corners featuring an embossed silver-tone geometric pattern lid over a red base.
