Lot 552: Two Ceramic Items comprising a BHS Priory Tableware Biscuit Jar and a French Veritable Porcelaine Serving Tray
This lot consists of two pieces of ceramic kitchen and tableware. The first is a cylindrical biscuit jar from the Priory range produced for British Home Stores (BHS). It is made from white glazed earthenware and features a transfer-printed floral spray in blue and magenta tones. The word Biscuits is printed on the front in a blue serif typeface. The jar is complete with a matching lid featuring a central knob and blue-lined rim. The base carries a circular blue backstamp reading BHS Priory Tableware, Freezer Proof, Microwave and Oven Safe, Made in Britain. The second item is a rectangular French porcelain serving tray with a scalloped edge and integrated handles. It is decorated with an ornate gilded scrollwork border and a central transfer-printed scene in the 18th-century style of Jean-Antoine Watteau, depicting a couple in a garden setting. The word Watteau is printed at the base of the scene. The reverse is marked in gold with Veritable Porcelaine France.
