Lot 1078: A Vintage Scalextric Champion Tourers Slot Car Racing Set
A vintage Scalextric Champion Tourers slot car racing set, based on the British Touring Car Championship series. The set features two 1:32 scale racing cars comprising a yellow and blue Renault Laguna, race number 2, and a silver Audi A4 Quattro, race number 1. The vehicles are constructed with plastic bodies and chassis, decorated with period racing decals including elf, Michelin, Philips, Castrol, and Dunlop. The collection includes multiple plastic track sections with integrated metal conductor rails, a red mechanical unit marked SCALEXTRIC LAP COUNTER, two hand-held speed controllers, and a power transformer. The set is housed in its original colour-illustrated cardboard box with a white polystyrene internal tray, bearing the printed text SCALEXTRIC CHAMPION TOURERS RENAULT LAGUNA BTCC V AUDI A4 QUATTRO. An instruction booklet for Circuit 3 layouts is included. The box lid also carries a small white circular adhesive label with the handwritten number 13 and a printed label reading 6.5kg 370-F842.
Condition report:
The set is in used condition with signs of play and age. The original cardboard box lid shows significant wear, including creasing, surface abrasions, and corner tears (photo 2). The internal polystyrene storage insert shows minor chipping to the edges (photo 1). The two slot cars exhibit play wear, with visible scuffs on the roof of the Renault Laguna (photo 3). The metal conductor rails on the track sections show surface oxidation and darkening (photo 1). The set is sold as seen and has not been tested for electrical operation.
