Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £8

Buyer's Premium:

An Edwardian mahogany and needlepoint fire screen featuring a shaped pediment with an integrated brass carry handle. The central rectangular frame contains a hand-stitched needlepoint panel depicting a cottage garden scene with foxgloves and poppies in shades of red, pink, and blue against a pale ground. The screen is supported on twin pairs of out-swept, scroll-form legs connected by a low horizontal stretcher. The construction features traditional joinery with a plain, dark-stained backboard secured to the frame with screws. A white rectangular adhesive label is present on the front left of the mahogany frame, printed in black with the characters HCP Auctions South West and Lot 1113 below. No other maker’s marks, stamps, or signatures are visible on the piece.

Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.

Condition report:

Multiple surface scratches and scuffs are visible to the wood finish, particularly on the backboard and the lower sections of the scroll legs (photo 2). The needlepoint tapestry panel exhibits light fading and minor discolouration consistent with age (photo 1). A small gap is visible at the joinery where the lower horizontal frame meets the right-hand leg assembly (photo 1). The piece shows general surface wear and minor finish loss throughout.
