Lot 1140: A Pair of Vintage Emad Fawzy Hand-painted Papyrus Egyptian Scenes (Signed)
A pair of vintage Emad Fawzy hand-painted papyrus Egyptian scenes, each depicting subjects inspired by ancient royal and funerary iconography. One composition features a seated pharaonic figure on a feline-legged throne being attended by a royal consort, set beneath a winged protector and flanked by vertical columns of hieroglyphs. The second work displays a horizontal register of various deities with animal heads, including Horus and Anubis, and human figures in profile, set against multiple columns of hieroglyphic script. Both works are executed in a palette of terracotta, turquoise, blue, and gold-toned pigments on natural, hand-made papyrus with characteristic deckled and frayed edges. In the lower right corner of the procession scene, there is a hand-painted inscription in Arabic script reading as Emad Fawzy. The pieces are mounted against dark mats and housed in matching black frames with gilt-finished inner slips, protected by glazing. A white adhesive label on the glazing of the right-hand frame reads HCP Auctions South West Lot 1140.

Condition report:
Both works appear to be in good condition. The papyrus supports display natural, uneven, and frayed edges typical of the hand-made medium (photo 1). The pigments remain bright with no significant visible loss, fading, or foxing (photo 1). The frames exhibit minor surface scuffing and accumulated dust on the glazing and edges consistent with age and storage (photo 1).
