Lot 492: An Antique Brass and Glass Table Oil Lamp
An antique brass and glass table oil lamp, featuring a clear glass chimney and a stepped pedestal base. The lamp is constructed with a bulbous brass font characterised by a central horizontal ridge, mounted upon a multi-stepped circular pedestal base. The burner assembly sits at the top, featuring a perforated gallery designed to support the glass chimney and facilitate airflow. The glass chimney is of traditional form with a bulbous lower section tapering to a cylindrical neck. A thumbwheel wick adjuster is present on the burner; while characters are visible around the rim of the wheel, they are not clearly legible as a name or brand and the mechanism’s functionality is untested. The brass components exhibit an aged, dull patina with visible surface tarnishing and several small indentations consistent with domestic use. The clear glass chimney appears intact but shows internal surface grime.
