Lot 552: An Antique Glamorgan Pottery Serving Plate and Johnson Brothers Tablewares
An antique Glamorgan Pottery serving plate and Johnson Brothers tablewares, accompanied by a collection of Imari-style and gilded ceramics. The lot features a circular earthenware serving plate from the antique period with twin-moulded handles and a scalloped rim, decorated with an elaborate Imari-style floral design in cobalt blue and iron-red tones with hand-painted highlights and gilded accents. The reverse bears an impressed mark consisting of the characters B.B. and New Stone beneath a six-pointed star, identifying it as a product of the Glamorgan Pottery, Swansea, alongside a hand-painted inventory number 4198 in red. The collection further includes a vintage Johnson Brothers ironstone soup bowl and matching dinner plate in the Snowhite pattern, featuring a transfer-printed border of blue-grey floral sprigs and wheat motifs. These pieces bear a printed backstamp with a crown crest, the pattern name Snowhite in script, and the text JOHNSON BROS, MADE IN ENGLAND, and IRONSTONE, with additional printed marks P and 1. The group is completed by a large white earthenware bowl with a gold-gilded rim and floral sprays, which contains three nested saucers including two Imari-style earthenware pieces and a porcelain saucer with a deep cobalt blue ground, gilded scrolling vine decoration, and a white central well.
