Lot 614: Vintage Daily Express and Royal Sun Newsprint Commemorative Newspapers
A collection of vintage Daily Express and Royal Sun newsprint commemorative newspapers dating from July 1981, documenting the wedding of HRH The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer. The group includes the Daily Express from Thursday, July 30, 1981, featuring the front-page headline SEALED WITH A LOVING KISS accompanied by a full-page monochrome photograph of the couple on the Buckingham Palace balcony. Also included are two editions of The Sun, specially branded as Royal Sun for the occasion: the Tuesday, July 28, 1981 issue with the headline Darling Di, you’re lovely but promise us you won’t…, and the Thursday, July 30, 1981 issue headlined AND THEN HE KISSED HER!. The collection is completed by a supplement from The Sun titled Born to be a Princess, which contains a multi-page pictorial record of Lady Diana Spencer’s childhood and early years. A white adhesive auction label is affixed to the front of the supplement, printed with HCP Auctions South West and Lot 614, with handwritten characters reading 080/.
Condition report:
The newspapers show characteristic age-related tanning and yellowing throughout (photo 1). Significant horizontal and vertical fold creases are present across all issues, consistent with original distribution and storage (photo 1). There is evidence of light edge wear and minor fraying to the newsprint margins (photo 1). An adhesive auction lot label is attached to the front cover of the supplement (photo 2).
