Lot 639: A Vintage Illuminated Desk Globe on a Translucent Purple Stand
A vintage illuminated desk globe on a translucent purple stand, comprising a printed plastic sphere featuring political mapping with topographical shading. The globe surface displays detailed geographic information including country names, capital cities, and major ocean currents. It is mounted on a translucent purple/pink plastic semi-meridian, which features embossed degree markings graduated from 0 to 90. The assembly is supported by a weighted black plastic circular base. The instrument is fitted with an integrated black electrical flex, incorporating an in-line rocker switch and a standard UK three-pin plug. A small circular label is located near the South Pole, though the characters are not legible as a specific maker’s name.
Condition report:
The globe exhibits a prominent horizontal seam at the equator (photo 1). A white scuff mark or scratch is visible in the South Atlantic region between South America and Africa (photo 1). There is a layer of surface dust on the black plastic base (photo 1). Electrical functionality has not been tested.
