Lot 668: A Vintage Emma Bridgewater Earthenware Storage Jar in the Magnificent Oak Pattern
A vintage Emma Bridgewater earthenware storage jar in the Magnificent Oak pattern. The large cylindrical vessel is finished in a cream-coloured glaze and features a wrap-around transfer-printed and hand-decorated design. The primary illustration depicts a mature oak tree with dense foliage in shades of yellow, orange, and green, with two red deer standing at the base. A large section of the body is decorated with a descriptive cursive script celebrating the oak tree as a joyful and uplifting sight and a rich ecosystem. The base features a printed mark with the title MAGNIFICENT OAK in a curved arrangement above a graphic depicting a cluster of six acorns and oak leaves. Below this is the manufacturer’s text Emma Bridgewater / made in Stoke-on-Trent / England accompanied by a small bumblebee emblem. A rectangular red and white adhesive label reading INSPECTED BY SHARON is present, alongside a single handwritten character T in black ink.
Condition report:
The item is in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. There is minor surface dirt and light shelf wear to the unglazed foot rim (photo 2). A small patch of adhesive residue is visible on the base near the bumblebee mark (photo 2).
