Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £10

Buyer's Premium:

A Late Victorian cased two-piece silver plated fish serving set, comprising a broad-bladed server and a five-tine serving fork. The metal heads of each piece are decorated with engraved scrolling foliate and floral motifs. The off-white handles feature a visible longitudinal grain consistent with bone or an early synthetic material such as celluloid, and are joined to the metal components by decorative ferules. The set is presented in its original fitted case with a black leatherette exterior and gold-toned linear detailing. The interior is lined with gathered white satin to the lid and black velvet to the base. A white adhesive label to the case exterior bears the handwritten characters 1045 and £55-. A smaller printed auction label from HCP Auctions South West is also present, reading Lot 677. Small marks are visible on the metal ferules of both items, but these are not legible as a maker name or official hallmark.

Condition report:

The metal components of the knife and fork show significant surface tarnish and light scratching throughout (photo 2). The off-white handles show minor surface wear and some small dark spots (photo 2). The interior satin lining of the case is heavily frayed and discoloured around the edges (photo 2). The exterior of the case shows general wear to the corners and edges, while the brass-toned latches appear functional (photo 1).
