Lot 678: A Collection of Vintage Ceramic Wares including SylvaC and New Devon Pottery
A collection of vintage ceramic wares, comprising a novelty vehicle vessel and several pieces of leaf-themed decorative tableware. The group features a two-part jar modelled as an early 20th-century open-top motor car, finished in a dark green glaze with a textured white canopy and hand-painted accents in gold, pink, and orange. Affixed to the underside is a gold-tone foil adhesive label with an ornate border, containing the letters YN above the words FINE ART and HAND CRAFTED. The lot also includes a small relief-moulded jug in the form of a head of cabbage, finished in a vibrant green glaze with pale highlights; the base is impressed with the numbers 4683, the name SYLVAC, and ENGLAND. A shallow elongated leaf dish in a tan glaze is present, featuring a circular black printed backstamp on the base depicting a cat head, surrounded by the text NEW DEVON POTTERY NEWTON ABBOT and MADE IN ENGLAND. Completing the collection is a rounded green-glazed leaf dish with relief-moulded vein details and a central circular indentation.
Condition report:
The collection is in overall good vintage condition. The novelty car vessel shows minor areas of glaze rubbing and light surface wear to the black painted wheels (photo 1). The SylvaC cabbage jug and the New Devon Pottery leaf dish appear to be without visible chips, cracks, or repairs (photos 3 and 4). The green leaf dish shows no visible defects from the available views.
