Estimated price: £5 - £8

Buyer's Premium:

A pair of vintage Hornsea earthenware salt and pepper shakers in the Cornwall pattern, featuring a design by John Clappison dating to the 1970s. Each vessel is formed with a rounded, bulbous body tapering to a flared foot and topped with a domed head. The salt shaker is perforated with five holes in a cross arrangement, while the pepper shaker has a single central aperture. The exterior is decorated with a transfer-printed harvest motif of wheat ears, blackberries, rosehips, and small pink flowers, finished with a single brown line at the base. The underside of each shaker reveals an unglazed foot ring and is fitted with a cream-coloured rubber bung. One bung is moulded with the text SUBA-SEAL, MADE IN ENGLAND, and PAT 786884. Secondary black printed numbers 32 and a reddish-brown 9 are also visible on the ceramic bases.

Condition report:

The items are in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the ceramic bodies (photo 1). The glaze remains bright and the transfer-printed decoration is crisp. There is minor shelf wear and light staining to the unglazed foot rings, and the original rubber bungs show typical age-related discolouration although they remain flexible (photo 2).
