Lot 759: A Set of Six Mid-Century Striped Stoneware Tea / Coffee Cups and Saucers
A set of six Mid-Century stoneware tea or coffee cups and matching saucers, decorated with a characteristically retro pattern. The cups feature a fluted or faceted form towards the base and are fitted with simple loop handles. The decoration consists of a hand-applied band of vertical, wave-like stripes in a palette of dark brown, olive green, ochre, and orange, set against a light cream-coloured glaze. The coordinating saucers are designed with a plain cream well and a contrasting dark brown glaze to the rim. The undersides of both the cups and saucers are finished with a clear glaze and an unglazed foot ring, with no maker’s marks, factory symbols, or characters visible on the bases.
Condition report:
The set remains in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs evident in the provided images (photo 1). The glaze is bright and shows no obvious signs of utensil marking or heavy crazing (photo 2). The unglazed foot rings to the bases are clean and free from significant wear (photo 3).
