Lot 907: A Vintage Spindle-back Hardwood Rocking Chair
A vintage spindle-back hardwood rocking chair, constructed from a stained hardwood, likely beech or ash, and finished in a warm reddish-brown tone. The chair features a high back with vertical spindles surmounted by a wide, decoratively shaped headrest. Curved armrests are supported by turned spindles, and the chair stands on turned legs joined by H-pattern stretchers, all mounted on traditional rockers. It is fitted with a one-piece, padded cushion covering both the seat and back, upholstered in a floral tapestry-style fabric with a pattern of flowers and foliage in shades of cream, green, rose, and brown. Two rectangular white adhesive inventory labels are present on the front of the headrest; the upper label is marked ‘46719’, and the lower label features a barcode and the characters ‘907’. No manufacturer marks or brands are visible.
Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.
Condition report:
The chair shows signs of regular use. There is noticeable wear and thinning of the finish on the top surfaces of both armrests and across the upper edge of the headrest (photo 1). Scuffs and small indentations are present on the rockers and legs (photo 1). The upholstery appears intact with no visible tears, although it shows general compression from use (photo 1). The joinery appears structurally sound.
