Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £3

Estimated price: £3 - £5

Buyer's Premium:

A row of five vintage mid-century red fabric and metal tip-up theatre seats, likely removed from a cinema or lecture hall environment. The units are mounted on a white-painted metal frame constructed from a combination of tubular and angle iron, designed for floor mounting. The seat pads and backrests are upholstered in a red textured woven fabric. The row is finished at each end and between seats with light hardwood supports and armrests, likely beech, featuring a clear honey-toned varnish. Each seat incorporates a gravity-fed or spring-assisted tip-up mechanism. The undersides of the seats are constructed from plywood panels. A small white rectangular adhesive label on the side of one wooden support reads 166. Several small, rectangular paper labels are affixed to the plywood seat bases, but these are too worn to be legible. No manufacturer name or maker’s marks are present.

Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.

Condition report:

The items are in fair to poor condition and show signs of heavy institutional use. The white-painted metal frames exhibit extensive paint loss, chipping, and significant surface corrosion throughout (photos 1, 2, and 3). The hardwood components show numerous surface scratches, dings, and localized wear to the varnished finish (photo 2). The red fabric upholstery is worn and soiled, with several prominent holes and tears visible on the front edges and corners of the seat cushions, particularly on the second and fourth seats from the left (photo 1). While the structural integrity of the frames appears intact, the units require full restoration.
