Lot 504: An Assortment of Gainsborough, Queen Anne, and Liling Tea and Tableware
A group of British and Chinese tea and tableware pieces featuring matched trios and individual items. Included are two English bone china tea trios by Gainsborough, each comprising a cup, saucer, and side plate decorated with a transfer-printed pattern of grey and green vine leaves and small berry clusters, finished with gilt-edged rims. The base of the cup bears a printed black graphic of a woman’s head in profile above the words BONE CHINA, the name Gainsborough in pink cursive script, B 0 7 1, and MADE IN ENGLAND. An additional small hand-painted black mark resembling a letter Y is also present. A pair of Chinese porcelain tea trios feature a transfer-printed border of blue flowers and green foliage with thin metallic rims. The underside of the cup is marked with a green printed stamp featuring a stylized tree icon, the Chinese characters 中國醴陵, and MADE IN CHINA. A selection of Queen Anne bone china includes a small handleless bowl and a pedestal dish, both featuring a transfer-printed pattern of red, pink, and white roses. The base of the bowl shows a printed black mark consisting of a crown above the words Queen Anne, BONE CHINA, and ENGLAND. The lot is completed by a shaped rectangular earthenware dish with a central double-arched handle in a pale blue glaze, decorated with a transfer-printed pink rose pattern on a cream ground; this piece bears no visible maker mark.
