Lot 680: An Indian carved wood and brass mounted novelty carving set
An Indian carving set comprising a single-edged steel knife and a two-tined steel fork, designed in the form of a dagger. The set features hand-carved wooden handles and a matching interlocking scabbard, decorated with stylised leaf and floral motifs. The hilts are fitted with brass ferrules and crossguards terminated in spherical finials. The scabbard is constructed in two halves that join with a brass locking lever mechanism. The steel knife blade features an impressed mark reading ‘INDIA’ (photo 3); the base of the steel fork tines is similarly impressed ‘INDIA’ (photo 1).
