Lot 944: A Queen Anne style burr walnut veneered record cabinet
A mid-20th-century storage cabinet for vinyl records, constructed in the Queen Anne revival style. The piece features highly figured, book-matched burr walnut veneers to the top and door panels, finished with straight-grained wood crossbanding. The frame and legs are constructed from a contrasting wood, stained to a matching walnut tone. The cabinet is a one-piece unit. The upper section is accessed via a lift-up top, revealing a deep storage compartment. The lower section consists of a two-door cupboard, the interior of which is fitted with vertical wooden dividers for the upright storage of records. The upper section is fitted with a large, ornate foliate cast handle in a brass-coloured finish. The lower doors are embellished with four decorative cast metal corner plates and two circular escutcheons. The cabinet stands on four cabriole legs, each featuring a carved shell motif at the knee and terminating in a pad foot. A working key with a silver-toned tassel is included. No maker’s marks or labels are visible.
