A vintage ceramic soap dish produced for Yardley of London, featuring a polychrome figural group. The figures, based on Francis Wheatley’s 18th-century painting The Lavender Sellers, depict a woman in a red bodice and orange skirt carrying a basket of lavender, flanked by two young girls in blue and yellow dresses, accompanied by a small dog at their feet. The group stands upon a green, textured grassy base. The white soap dish is fashioned with a scalloped rim and pink scrollwork accents. The front features a raised, scroll-edged plaque with a gilded border, containing the printed text Yardley English Lavender in gold and black script. The glaze is bright and reflective across the figures and base. The base of the piece is not visible for transcription of any manufacturer marks.
