Start price: £3

Estimated price: £3 - £5

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £3

Two glass ships in bottles, one of which represents the Santa Maria flagship. The featured vessel is constructed from clear glass with frosted glass sails and delicate glass-spun rigging, housed within a cylindrical glass bottle. The bottle is fitted with a decorative blown-glass stopper featuring a spherical finial. The assembly is supported by a dark-stained wooden plinth with two cradle supports. A rectangular brass-coloured plaque is mounted to the front of the wooden base, bearing the cursive black script Santa Maria. The internal glass ship is finely detailed with tiered masts and intricate rigging lines. A second bottled boat is included in this lot, as indicated by a handwritten adhesive label reading 2 bottled boats (1 broke) RESERVE £10. The main bottle is secured to its wooden base with strips of clear adhesive tape.
