Lot 81: A Cardiff Ambulance Wooden First Aid Transport Crate

A wooden first aid transport crate of rectangular form, constructed from pine planks with nailed joints. The exterior is finished in a dark brown stain and features a prominent hand-painted red cross to the lid and one side. The opposing side is marked with stencilled red lettering reading CARDIFF AMBULANCE. The crate is fitted with a hinged lid secured by a simple metal hook-and-eye clasp. The interior contains a fixed wooden divider rack featuring five circular cutouts designed to secure glass bottles or canisters during transit. The construction includes two simple metal hinges to the rear. A blue tape measure is visible in the background for scale.

Condition report:

The crate is in poor structural condition with significant signs of age and degradation. There is heavy wood rot and material loss to the lower corners and base (photo 1). The timber shows extensive splintering, woodworm exit holes, and surface wear throughout. The interior exhibits significant debris, cobwebs, and structural decay to the baseboards (photo 2). The paint to the red cross and stencilled lettering is weathered and faded.
