Lot 141: A British Berkefeld Salt-Glazed Stoneware Water Filter

This auction ended on 31 October 2026.

Start price: £3

Estimated price: £3 - £5

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £6

A large British Berkefeld salt-glazed stoneware water filter vessel of cylindrical form. The piece is constructed from heavy stoneware with a thickened rim and a pale tan salt-glazed exterior. It features a prominent black and white printed label to the front reading “British Berkefeld” over “MADE IN ENGLAND”. A circular aperture near the base is fitted with a metal spigot tap, showing a dark, oxidised patina. The interior appears unglazed or matte-finished, consistent with its function as a domestic filtration unit. There is a dark, possibly metallic or painted band partially visible around the lower circumference. The body is finished in a standard industrial glaze common to utilitarian kitchenalia of the period.
